📖 Text: Wednesday – Matthew 13:11 (Head and Heart)
Matthew 13:11
[11] He answered and said unto them, because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.

#A. HEAD 🧐
1. OBSERVATION (What do I see?)
– He answered and said unto them
– Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven
– it is given unto you
– the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven
– but to them it is not given

2. What does it MEAN?
– He answered and said unto them:
° Who is speaking here and who is He speaking to? Jesus is speaking here, in response to His disciples’ question; “Why speakest thou unto them (the multitudes) in parable?”

– Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven:
° Here Jesus mentions that the disciples can understand the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but the multitudes couldn’t. That’s why He speaks unto them in parables.

– It is given unto you:
° How do the disciples have access to these mysteries, what do they have that makes them able to understand these things that the multitudes lack?
Jesus continues to answer this question in Vs 12

Matthew 13:12
[12] For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.

Luke explains this much better; Luke 8:18
Luke 8:18
[18] Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have.

And this means that, when the word of Christ is heard properly, something is received, and through what has been received, more is gotten.

It is like, the understanding of what has been received keeps compounding and consolidating. Hence, the receiver keeps becoming more fruitful in knowledge, understanding and practice.

But anyone that doesn’t hear properly, would lack understanding, become confused, be given to fables and the end of this is that, even the little truth that is left would become corrupted.

Moreso, Jesus continues to explain the reason He speaks to the multitudes in parables, and he says; (Matthew 13: 13 – 15)

They look but they don’t see nor perceive, they hear but don’t receive any information neither do they understand; because their heart has waxed gross, their ears are dull of hearing and their eyes they have closed.

Hence, the multitude are the reason why they don’t understand, they are not giving room for the message to permeate them; they hold their own notions and preconceived mindset, against the word. Some mock, some are just waiting for an opportunity to attack the preacher.

This is why Jesus mentioned in Luke 8:18; “Take heed therefore how ye hear”.

Hence, Jesus even speaking to them in parables is to their advantage, so that they can have more opportunity to consider think and reflecting on the information that they have received, so that it can bless them.

Hence, what the disciples have is a listening heart, a willingness to learn, a eagerness to hear, see, perceive and understand what Jesus is saying. Hence, this attitude makes them recieve the revelation of the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven.

– the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven: What Jesus is explaining is the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven. In His parables, He keeps explaining what the kingdom of heaven is; “the Kingdom of heaven is like…”

– but to them it is not given: This is the reason why the revelation of the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven is not given to them
👇
Matthew 13:15
[15] For this people’s heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.

3. What stood Out/ What issue is God Raising with me Today?
– Take heed therefore how you hear my word.

#B. HEART: What is my ATTITUDE ❤ (Checking my attitude against the issue raised) / (How does the understanding of this truth makes me feel?)
– Do I understand what I am reading?
– How do I hear God’s word?
– Do you give time to reflect and meditate on the word I have heard, read or studied?
– Do I desire to be influenced (converted & transformed) by the word of Christ?

#PRAYER 🙏
– I pray that your word is continually hidden in my heart, and it finds expression in my day-to-day activities.

– Blessed are my eyes that they see and my ears that they hear; I perceive and understand the word of the Lord.
I thank you for this you have granted me out of your large heart; your love, grace, and mercy unto me. I appreciate you for your word unto me today. (Amen)
